The Acadia is the first air-source heat pump that can operate with efficiencies similar to a geothermal system without the need for trenching, digging or drilling in the yard.  As a matter of fact, it continues to operate and provide heat at high efficiency rates even when outdoor temperatures fall as low as -30 degrees Fahrenheit.  This low temperature operation, using the patented opti-cycle technology will save you money and keep you comfortable all year round.

Acadia - powered by electricity - how it works:
1 - Heat is removed from outdoor air
2 - Cooled air is exhausted from the outdoor unit
3 - Cool indoor air is heated in the air handler
4 - Heat is distributed through duct work

At moderate outdoor conditions, the Acadia combined heating and cooling system operates like a conventional air source heat pump.  Energy from the outside air is absorbed in the outdoor coil, and transferred into the home via R410A refrigerant through the air handler.
At more extreme outdoor conditions, the Acadia combined heating and cooling system engages a Booster Compressor and Economizer.  This allows the system to absorb more energy from the outside air as temperatures decline, even as low as -30 degrees Fahrenheit.
Conventional air source heat pumps virtually lose the ability to absorb heat at 0 degrees Fahrenheit.  Below 30 degrees Fahrenheit, their BTU output will not maintain a home's heating requirements, and supplemental heat is required.
