Ultra violet germicidal lights

Ease your allergy symptoms with ultra violet germicidal lights.  UV lights are used to sterilize and neutralize airborne bacteria, molds, dust mites and odors and can drastically reduce illness, allergy symptoms and breathing problems.  The UV lights are installed in the main supply or return duct of a forced air heating and cooling system.  The lights disinfect the air stream as it passes through.  If you suffer from allergies or asthma, you may want to consider having ultra violet light treatment equipment installed.  Also great for mold problems!

The process of adding moisture to the air is one of the most important aspects of total indoor comfort.  Humidification offers many proven benefits.  During the heating season, humidification not only adds to our comfort level, but it also helps protect your home and its furnishings from the harmful effects of dry air.  The dry air "steals" moisture from plaster, wood, glue and fabrics.  Over a period of time, this can result in cracks in ceilings and walls, loose furniture joints and flooring, shrinking moldings and loosened wall paper.  It also reduces static electricity.  Dry, thirsty air evaporates moisture from your skin, a cooling process that makes you feel chilly.  If the humidity level is raised to recommended levels, you can turn your thermostat down to 68 degrees and still feel comfortable.  During the heating season the average unhumidified home may have a relative humidity as low as 13% (about half the relative humidity of the Sahara Desert!).

Zoning systems

Is one room or area of your home always warmer or colder than the rest?  A zoning system can eliminate those hot and cold spots.  A properly zoned system can also save up to 30% in energy costs.
Zoning systems have been used in offices and commercial buildings for many years.  It is now becoming increasingly popular in homes because of the comfort, convenience and economy that they offer.  Zone control allows you to heat or cool only those areas of your home that require it, rather than the entire home resulting in greater comfort and energy savings of up to 20%.  With a zoning system, homeowners have had to rely on one centrally located thermostat to control their entire home.  This results in uneven temperatures...warmer rooms and cooler rooms.  Many new homes being built today are much more difficult to heat and cool with a single conventional thermostat.  Especially in homes with multiple levels, cathedral ceilings, sprawling floor plans, rooms in a basement or attic, isolated rooms and rooms with large window areas.  With new zone technology, an affordable, highly reliable zone control system can be custom designed for your home.

Switching your fan into the "on" position provides continuous filtration of the air in your home.  As the air circulates through your system, it is constantly being passed through your filters.  As a result, the quality of the air in your home will improve.

Carbon monoxide detectors

Installing a carbon monoxide detector is recommended for all homes with fuel-burning appliances.

Reducing the carbon monoxide risk:

Have your fuel-burning home equipment (fireplaces, furnaces, wood and coal stoves, space and portable heaters) inspected by a professional every year.

Keep dryer, stove, furnace and fireplace vents clear of ice, snow, dirt, leaves and other debris.

Never use your oven to heat your home.

Only use barbecue grills and generators outside, away from all doors, windows and vent openings.  Never use them in the home or garage or near building openings.

Test your CO alarm at least once a month and replace alarms according to the manufacturer's instructions.
