The duct work is a very important part of your forced air heating and cooling system.  Poorly performing duct work can drastically reduce your system's efficiency.  It causes it to work harder to keep your home at a comfortable temperature.  Many times, duct work is hidden in walls, ceilings and crawl spaces which can make them quite difficult to access and repair.  It is important to take the time to inspect and assess your current duct work.  At Card Heating & Cooling we specialize in duct work repairs and modifications.  We can improve the efficiency of your curring forced air system by sealing all leaks and insulating the ducts in your attic and unconditioned spaces.  This will improve your system's overall performance along with your comfort and indoor air quality.  Call 673-9767 today to schedule an appointment.

Suggested checklist for duct work improvements:

  • Check, measure and identify all leaks.
  • Seal leaks and seams with mastic sealant or metal tape.
  • Do not use duct tape, it will not last.
  • Repair or replace damaged, disconnected, or undersized ducts.
  • Straighten out all flexible ducts that have been crushed or twisted.
  • Seal all registers and grills tightly to the ducts.
  • Insulate ducts in all unconditioned spaces such as attics and crawl spaces with a duct insulation that carries an R value of 8, which is NH code!
  • Replace existing filter.
  • Consider upgrading filter.
  • Conduct a Combustion Safety Test after ducts are sealed to make sure that there is no backdrafting of gas or oil-burning appliances.
  • A carbon monoxide alarm is highly recommended for all homes!
